Childhood Memories

In my childhood, my favourite toy was my lego. I got really happy when my aunt gave them to me on my birthday. My bırthday is on the 8th of November. I played with my legos a lot when I was a kid. I had to give them away to the a family who were really poor. I was sad but another kid was happy so I got also happy.

My favourite place was the ball pool in Tatilya when I was a child. My mom used to take me there in weekends. She used to work there so I went there a lot but she changed her job so I couldn't go there anymore then I grew up but I still love that place.

These are prepared for a writing class.

Glogster Alarm!

Dear all!

Finally, I have learned how to make a glogster! :) Even though this glogster is available for 7 days, I really enjoyed making it! For those who don't know what glogster is: it is a very fun way to make online posters! My first one was about Mozart's requiem. you may find it on the link below.

Sleeping Beauty (Unfollowed Princess Version)

Dear Visitors!

I have made a really ironic digital story. Even though we are so much in a close relationship with internet, we need to be careful about the concerns which may pop out and which may be really stupid. In my digital story, I have tried to make a point on that and also you may use this video in your "adults" classroom for pre-intermediate or intermediate levels. You can ask them to finish the fairytale, afterwards you may discuss what it is about, what is actually mentioned... The list continues if you can carry on to be creative!

Digital Storytelling

Dear audiances,

This week, be prepared for a digital story which is perfect for the tech-kids! This story will be about a fairytale which is up to date. It will include machines and technology! I am going to share it tonight with you all!

Stay tuned for more,

The Famous Thai Food Task

On zunal.com, I have found a task which is quite satisfactory. The task is called "The famous Thai food".

You may find it below in the link;

http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=274396

The activity starts with grouping the students in 4-5 people. Each group makes an online research on Thai recipes and create a menu.

The task process on what the students should have a research on is described in the site with bullets;

* The brief description of the menu
* The ingredients
* The tools used
* The recipe

Finally they post their works on teacher's facebook and comment on each others' works as a feedback.

In addition to those, the teacher uses a rubric for the grading which you can find in the link below;

http://zunal.com/evaluation.php?w=274396

I have found this activity quite interactive and authentic as it includes real life materials and group work yet i am in a slight doubt about the grade selection. It says in the site that this activity is for 9-12th graders which i found not actually challenging for that age group and assumed proficiency level as finding a recipe, understanding it and turning it into a presentable form are more likely to be suitable for lower graders in my opinion.

If you think in a dofferent or the same way, ypu can always comment below!

A New Online Dutch Course

As a new language learner and a language teacher to be, I was in a search for new resources to learn it efficiently. In this need of resources, I have found a new web site which gives online Dutch course in lower-beginner level. The Dutch course and the instructions are given by Groningen University. (Only the classes are shared on the site) It is definitely efficient on giving clear information and a number of exercises. Afterwards, it gives quizzes about the topic and listening tasks. If you want to take a Dutch course, this must be the site you should surely visit beforehand in order to have a basic knowledge.

https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/dutch

I have been taking the course for two weeks now and I have already learned articles, plurals, common phrases, time usage, basic question/sentence structure and many other subjects.

In addition to all those, this online course is totally online but only if you want to get a certificate, it charges 30 Euros. Unfortunately without registering for the course, it is not possible to see information about the certificate.

This course has already started but the university gives one more Introduction to Dutch course which starts on 1st June!

For more, stay tuned!

Internship Wanted!

A really funny thing happened last Friday... Beforehand, I was hopeless about having an Erasmus internship in Netherlands until I found out that I can still have it but not as an Erasmus Internship... At this point, I think I need a hand to find fields or companies in which an ELT and comparative literature student can work in summer or the procedure about the internships for Non-EU people.

Any idea is so much valuable so all comments are welcome!
Thank you for your help in advance.

PS: Tomorrow I am uploading a video about this which means the first video is on the way!

Stay tuned for more experiences and sharing...

LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE AS AN ADULT

Yes... For any age, learning a new language takes quite much time. If you are an
adult, consider that it is much more! I started learning Dutch as my second language 6 months ago and, I have a perfect chance to analyze second language acquisition process. I don't live in Netherlands but I go there a lot which creates an opportunity for me to get exposed to the language so much more but it is not enough for me to learn Dutch totally...  As an adult learner, I realized that I need to see rules, the structure of the sentences, the meanings of the words and etc... I always thought that I can learn it mainly by being exposed to Dutch and speaking yet, my right hemisphere is not capable to do it all. That is why my language analysis on myself became more interesting. As soon as I realized that I needed a real well-structured book, I searched on internet and found a really detailed book. (You may find the link here: http://examenmvv.ru/free-books/dutch_essential_grammar.pdf) When I looked at it, the book seemed so much confusing yet it was the best and most structured source I could find. I started to study from this book with the help of my Dutch acquaintances, however, I was struggling with the context because it was too complicated (even though it says the "essentials") to cope with as a beginner-level learner. After the struggle, I found another book from which I can study properly at the end. I must say that the name of the book is very offensive yet the subjects it covers are definitely what I was searching for. (You may find the book from here: http://www.amazon.com/Dutch-For-Dummies-Margreet-Kwakernaak/dp/047051986X
